Nanny (garde d'enfants à domicile) salary in France
A nanny who looks after your children in your own home is called a garde d'enfants à domicile (or assistant(e) parental(e)). Unlike a childminder, she works at your place and needs no approval (agrément). She is covered by the same collective agreement (IDCC 3239), with her own pay rules.
Minimum hourly rate
The minimum gross hourly rate for this job is €12.89 (since 1 June 2026), and never less than the SMIC: the more favourable of the two applies. Above it, the rate is negotiated according to experience, the number of children and the tasks.
Monthly salary and overtime
- Regular schedule: monthly salary = hourly rate × hours per week × 52 ÷ 12, the same every month, paid leave included.
- Full-time reference: 40 hours a week.
- Overtime beyond 40 hours: +25 % for the first 8 hours, then +50 %.
- Limits: 50 hours in a single week and 48 hours on average over 12 consecutive weeks.
Example calculated by the GardeZen payroll engine: 40 hours a week at the minimum rate gives €2,234.27 gross and €1,745.41 net per month.
Declaration, CMG and tax credit
For a child under 6 (12 for a single parent) you declare the nanny on Pajemploi, which calculates the CMG (complément de libre choix du mode de garde) according to your income. What remains payable gives right to the tax credit for home employment (crédit d'impôt emploi à domicile): 50 % of expenses within an annual ceiling.
No maintenance allowance is due: the nanny works in your home.
Nanny share (garde partagée)
Two families can share one nanny. Each family signs its own contract, declares its share on Pajemploi and receives its own CMG. Overtime is counted on the total hours worked for both families.
Frequently asked questions
Can a nanny be paid the SMIC?
Not when the collective-agreement minimum for her job is higher, which is the case: the more favourable rate applies, currently €12.89 gross per hour.
Do I pay a maintenance allowance to a nanny?
No. The indemnité d'entretien only applies to a childminder who cares for the child in her own home.
Can I dismiss a nanny?
Yes, on a permanent contract (CDI): prior interview, real and serious reason, notice depending on seniority and severance pay from 8 months of service. Resignation and mutual termination (rupture conventionnelle) are also possible.
